Quake Shake Farrell's Brea

We’ve teamed up with the American Red Cross to raise money for the American Red Cross and Earthquake preparedness awareness in the wake of the local 5.1 magnitude earthquake that was felt across Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino counties on Friday March 28th and Tuesday’s deadly 8.2 earthquake that struck off the coast of Chile. These earthquakes are a sharp reminder to Californians that California’s “Big One” could come at any time and everyone needs to be prepared.

Beginning Wednesday, April 2 through Sunday April 6, all seven Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlour locations will be selling their new “Quake Shake” for $4.99 with 100% of sales going to the Red Cross. In addition, our guests will also receive a brochure on earthquake preparedness with instructions on how to be ready for the next “big” earthquake.

Our limited edition Quake Shake is a Rocky Road flavored shake, A rich chocolate shake with marshmallow swirl topped with whipped cream, almonds and a cherry. 100% of the sales from this $4.99 Quake Shake will be donated to the American Red Cross. In addition, monetary donations will also be accepted at each restaurant.

22nd Annual Brea 8K Classic – This Sunday

Brea 8k Classic Marathon

The 22nd Annual Brea 8k Classic is this Sunday February 24th. This is a fun mini marathon that anyone can run. It can be fun for the whole family. I have ran the Brea 8k in past years and it was a big enjoyment. There were professionals there who blazed through and actually ran the marathon several times, they kept lapping me. And there were those that had to walk because of a past condition. Mothers brought their babies in strollers and some walked their pets.

Last year a new route was introduces as well as chip timing. This year will be no different. Registration seems like it will be higher this year than last.

The Brea 8k Classic supports various Brea Olinda High School programs that will receive funds from the race.  The Academic Booster Club, programs like Speech and Debate and Academic Decathlon will benefit, as will graduating seniors receiving scholarships. On the arts side, the high school instrumental program and, for the first time, vocal music program will receive a portion of the proceeds. Also for the first time, the BOHS Global IT Academy is taking an active role and will benefit from the race. The goal is to raise at least $50,000 for Brea Olinda High School programs.

22nd Annual Brea 8K Classic

When: Feb. 24; 6:30 a.m. late registration and packet pick up, 8 a.m. Brea 8K Classic, 9:15 a.m. Kids’ 1K Fun Run, 10 a.m. awards

Location: East Birch Street and Brea Mall Road

Features: Chip-timing, course on the streets of Brea, 1K Fun Run for children 10 and under

Cost: $30 adults, $25 students 18 and under, $12 Kids Fun Run

It’s not too late to register. Even though online and in person registration is closed, you can register on race morning starting at 6:30AM behind Olive Garden at the Brea Mall! Cash and checks only.

All in all, it’s a great way to start running and spend a Sunday morning. Believe me, you’ll feel great when you’re done. To me it was a great accomplishment. I’m skipping this year but I’ll be back!

The community fair took place at the organization’s Brea clubhouse.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Brea-Placentia-Yorba Linda also runs programs at several schools in the Placentia and Yorba Linda areas. Additionally, children from eight schools in Placentia and Brea participate in an after school program at the Brea clubhouse. There are five school-based programs at schools around Placentia.

5 Guys Burgers Opening in Brea July 31st

5 Guys Burger BreaFive Guys Burgers & Fries will open tomorrow July 31st 2012 in Brea Downtown next to Subway in the Rite Aid Shopping area. If you haven’t had a 5 Guys Burger, you need to try them out and see if they match up to your other favorites like In-n-Out or The Habit.

Five Guys Burgers & Fries is set to open Tuesday, July 31 in Brea. This will be the second Five Guys to open in Orange County next week. On Monday, July 30, Five Guys is opening a new restaurant in Mission Viejo.
The Mission Viejo restaurant is at the Alicia Towne Plaza at 24391 Alicia Parkway. That opening comes after a long construction period that had many residents wondering if the East Coast burger chain would ever open.

The restaurant is run by franchisee Tom Horton, who operates a handful of Five Guys in Orange County.
The Brea Five Guys is owned by franchisee Phil Ratner, who opened the first Five Guys in Orange County two years ago. The Brea restaurant is at 403 W. Imperial Hwy, one block east of Brea Blvd.
Ratner and Horton own the rights to open dozens of Five Guys restaurants in Orange and Los Angeles counties.
The chain is expanding rapidly under franchisees. Ratner plans to open another Five Guys in Cypress, at Katella and Knott, later this year. Next year, he’ll open a Five Guys in Torrance at Hawthorne and Lomita.
Virginia-based Five Guys chain is often compared to In-N-Out Burger because it has a fanatical following in the East Coast. However, Five Guys is different than In-N-Out — from pricing to menu options. First off, Five Guys offers counter-service only — no drive-throughs for car-eating obsessed Southern California drivers.
Five Guys’ hand-pressed burgers can also be ordered with a wide range of toppings ranging from green peppers to A-1 sauce. The chain also sells hot dogs.
