Black Friday Ads and Sales Going on Now Around Orange County

Black Friday is about getting the best shopping deals the day after Thanksgiving. Or at least, that the way it use to be. Lately the trend has been for stores to open earlier and earlier Friday morning until they opened the earliest they could, midnight. Then some stores started opening Thanksgiving day. This year, more or most stores will be open Thanksgiving Day at some point.

Regardless of how you feel about these new store hours. It is what it is. For me, I’ll be enjoying my Thanksgiving with friends and family and will leave the shopping to other days.

Pro Tips:

  • If you plan on going out shopping do your homework. Look at the ads and make a priority list and where to go first, second and so on.
  • Waiting in line to be one of the first is not worth it. Show up 5-10 minutes after the store opens and walk right in.
  • If you’re serious about getting what you want. Scope out the store the day before late in the day. Chances are employees are already going to be placing certain merchandise in different locations. Ask how many there are in stock. Alt least you’ll know exactly where to head.
  • Avoid the store altogether. See if the store will be selling the same products online at the same price. A couple of years ago I needed a new computer and Best Buy has a fantastic deal but people had been camping out for a week already and the store was only going to have 3 in stock. Chances were slim I would get one. I researched and found out that the same computer would be for sale at the stroke of midnight. I logged on at 11:55pm, waited 5 minutes, bought the computer and went to bed.
  • Some stores, will match others prices. Call stores in advance.
  • Buy everything online. Go to Amazon.com, Google shopping and store websites. Most companies will ship for free.
  • Google search for (store) promo codes. There are many promotional codes / coupon codes websites out there. You can strike an additional discount.
  • Buy before Thanksgiving. I’m finding out more and more stores, especially clothing stores like Macy’s, Kohl’s, JC Penny’s, are having the biggest sales with the deepest discounts the days prior to Thanksgiving.
  • Costco and Sam’s Club have their best deals the days leading up to Thanksgiving. They usually have a 1 or 2 day event.
  • Buy early. As the days lead up to Christmas there seems to be less discounts.
  • DO NOT buy the last weekend or days before Christmas. Retailers learned that there’s no need to offer discounts at this time. Those that still have to buy will have to pay full price.
  • Think outside the box. There are many retailers and companies offering discounts from cars to tires, garden tools to flooring, baby diapers to theme attractions.
